POST ELECTION ANALYSIS 2020 - 2021: CHALLENGES FOR THE NEW POLITICAL CYCLE

December 25, 2021

The second presidential round culminates a particularly loaded year in the electoral plane, which occurred as a result of elections suspended by the pandemic during 2020 (mayors, councilors and regional governors) and the election of the members of the Constitutional Convention, responsible for the drafting of a new Constitution for the country, a process that began after the social outbreak of October 2019.

It should be remembered that, in November 2019, the President of the Republic summoned the parties represented in Congress to sign an Agreement for Peace and the New Constitution. This call was signed by all parties with the exception of the Communist Party (PC) and some sectors of the Broad Front (FA).

The signing of that agreement and the ratification by a large majority of the Approve option in the 2020 entry plebiscite, led to the formation of a Constituent Convention composed mostly of left-wing sectors represented in the PC, the FA and the List of the People, who have promoted in their statements a re-founding agenda for our country.
