On January 31, 2020, the United Kingdom left the European Union. The Brexit process began after the referendum held in the country on June 23, 2016 . and was won by opponents of staying in the EU. First, an agreement was signed regulating the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from this organization, and in March 2020 negotiations on a future partnership began . On December 24, 2020, an agreement was reached on the terms of cooperation. On April 29, 2021, after the consent of the European Parliament, the Council adopted a decision on the conclusion of the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement and the Information Security Agreement. They entered into force on May 1, 2021 and allow for duty-free and quota-free movement of goods between the two sides. However, this does not apply to services. The issues of competition, fishing rights and the area of citizens' safety were also regulated.
