The German economy relies on exports more than many other comparable economies. This presents great opportunities, but also increasing risks, for example because the German economy has recently been feeling the effects of crises that have frequently occurred abroad. The strong export orientation could even turn out to be a weakness if protectionism and decoupling tendencies lead to today's export markets being served by local production in the future. This also applies to the growth market of China.
