Defending Our Rights: Why Intellectual Property Matters to Canada

May 31, 2017

This report is the first in a series of three that will examine the importance of stronger intellectual property rights (IPRs) to Canada's economy. It reviews Canada’s record on intellectual property protection and seeks opportunities to better position Canada to be a world leader on IP rights, rather than a laggard. The report argues that IPRs are fundamental to the Canadian economy, noting that Canada's economic future depends on increased productivity, which depends on innovation, which in turn depends on improving IPRs in Canada.
